Avengers in Galactic Storm

What this mod does

  This mod allows you to play as the boss character Galen Kor in Versus
  mode. On the Versus mode character select screen, you can move off the
  left or right edge to hide the selection cursor then press button 1 to
  select Galen Kor.


How to apply and use the mod

  1. In your mame/roms folder, move the original avengrgs.zip to another
     folder such as mame/roms-original

  2. In your mame/roms folder, make a new folder called avengrgs and
     unzip the contents of avengrgs.zip into this folder.

  3. Use a file hashing tool, such as romhacking.net/hash , to confirm
     the hashes for the following files:

       sf_00-0.7k
       SHA-1: E8BE1751029AEA74680AC00CD7F3CF84E1ADFC56
       CRC32: 7D20E2DF

       sf_01-0.7l
       SHA-1: 8C4E28CDE9E93457197B1849E6C9EF9516B5732F
       CRC32: F37C0A01

  4. Use an IPS patching tool, such as romhacking.net/patch , to apply
     the following patches:

       Apply patch "sf_00-0.7k.ips" to file "sf_00-0.7k".
       Apply patch "sf_01-0.7l.ips" to file "sf_01-0.7l".

  5. If your IPS patching tool created new files, rename them as
     "sf_00-0.7k" and "sf_01-0.7l", overwriting the originals in the
     mame/roms/avengrgs folder.

  6. Optional: zip the files in the avengrgs folder into a file
     avengrgs.zip and put the zip file in the mame/roms folder. Then
     delete the avengrgs folder to save space.

  7. Start MAME with the command line:

       mame avengrgs

     (If you start MAME without any command line arguments, then select
     the game from the menu, MAME will tell you the modified files have
     an incorrect checksum and won't start the game.)


To restore the original game

  1. Delete the modified avengrgs folder or avengrgs.zip file from your
     mame/roms folder.

  2. Copy the original avengrgs.zip file from the mame/roms-original
     folder (or other backup location) to your mame/roms folder.

Version History

    The selection cursor starts off hidden to be able to select
    Galen Kor by pressing button 1, but once the joystick is moved, the
    hidden state can't be reselected.

  1.1  2022-08-20
    The selection cursor starts on the default character. Moving the
    cursor off the left or right edge will hide the cursor to be able
    to select Galen Kor with button 1, or you can wrap the cursor back
    around to select normal characters.
