Phantasy Star II Translation & Improvement Patch v1.1 by Tanner 7th Nov 2020 This patch replaces the original English script with a new one, translated from scratch. You can find our script on our website: https://phantasystariijapanesescript.wordpress.com/ (It's not exactly the same, because I tweaked it as I went along, but it's mostly the same.) This script is a literal translation, so it reads awkwardly. I'm working on a properly polished translation, but if you don't mind excessively literal text, you're welcome to try this one in the meantime. I also made some changes to the game itself as well. The old school design choices make the game hard to replay for me, but some people like it that way, so, as of v1.1, these are now optional. If you want them, apply the patch called "PSII Translation v1.1 (gameplay changes).ips" instead. Massive thanks to lory1990 for his Disassembly of Phantasy Star II. Without it, this project would have been much harder and of lower quality. Also thanks to Sega's original translators. People give them a bad rap for botching the translation, and... Well, I see why. But considering the limitations (cartridge space, time, etc) they did a pretty good job. And they were great for getting direction when we were confused about a few lines. List of changes **** - Replaced script with translation - Changed menus to lower case - Changed default character names to lower case (couldn't figure out how to let the player input lower-case; sorry!) - Changed text for - Items - Enemies - Song Titles - Techniques (a few) - Fixed text pointers: - Old man in Paseo now says proper line after Climatrol - Kueris inventor now says proper line after making gum Optional changes: **** - Multiplied XP and meseta gains by 3. (I've found that x4 makes it too easy, but x2 isn't quite enough. I hope that x3 gives just the right amount of challenge.) - Applied lory1990's 2x walking speed code. - (Attempted to) increase escape rate by x2. (In the code, it generates a number and compares it with the enemy with the lowest escape number. I assume you need a lower number to escape the battle, so I added a line to divide the result by two. But I'm not certain if it works.) - Added Hidapipe to Paseo, Oputa, Zema, Kueri item shops. (This is a poor-man's substitute for directly lowering the encounter rate, because I don't know how to do it properly.) - Removed Dimate from Paseo item shop - Removed Monomate from Oputa item shop - Removed Antidote from Zema item shop - Removed Antidote from Kueri item shop - Moved around items in Dezo dungeons to make Ikuto and Naval optional. (Would move them all to Menobe, since it's right outside the Crevice, but I lack the knowledge to add extra chests.) - Moved Nei Slasher and Nei Shot to Menobe - Moved Nei Shield and Nei Emel to Guaron - Moved Storm Gear and Color Scarf to Ikuto - Moved Crystal Chest and Crystal Cape to Naval
