If you name the ROM after a previous ROM, something that already has an existing .sav file, you will start the game with 6 crystals. That is not good, because you will not be able to beat the game. =-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*= II) Introduction to the Hack =-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*=-*= This is my 3rd hack of Zelda II! This time I tried to go all out, and I think it worked. There have been countless hours put into this hack, trying to make it something special, and I hope you see it when you play. ^_^ -New Graphics..Everything has been changed in some way. There are lots of custom GFX, but I've also left in old ones, too. So you will see new and old stuff throughout. -Magic.........You don't need to Pause the Menu anymore to cast magic! Well, you still have to push it to select which magic, but if you have the Life spell out, just push select until you are healed! No more hassle of: Pause, heal, pause, heal, pause, heal....etc. -Dungeons......New Dungeon layouts! Mmm, delicious. -New Beam......The reason I changed the Sword Beam is because the original one just....sucked. Hehe. This time, having full health will feel so rewarding! ;) -Enemy Count...In the pause menu is a new feature. If you look at the bottom left of the menu, you will see two enemy Icons. The smaller one represents Weak enemies, and the bigger one represents strong enemies. Once you kill 10 of either one, you will get a prize! Weak enemies usually drop weak potions or small Rupees and the strong enemies drop strong potions or big rupees. Unfortunately you can't tell the difference between rupees. :( -Experience....I've completely re-done the experience system. It's still on scale with the old one, it just seems less daunting. Maybe? -Dialogue......All NPC's have more to say and they even talk faster now, too! So if you are in town, say hello! ^_^ As usual, I included two versions of my hack. Easy and Hard. They both play exactly the same, but only one is for you. ;) Easy Mode: 3 Lives For this one I was aiming to make it as easy as the orginal Zelda II. I think I have succeeded. Maybe a little too much. :P Link's sword is more powerful than his original, enemies do less damage to Link, and there is experience aplenty. Hard: 2 Lives I know a few of you enjoy a challenge, so load this one up. Link has reduced attack power, enemies have slighty more HP, enemy AI has been tweaked to add more challenge, and now, they all have increased attack power. So yeah, if you don't like a challenge, stay away from this one! :) New overworld, new dungeons, new graphics, and more dialog! What's not to love? Not all emulators will play my hack. So check out the list below and Google the one you want to use. There might be later versions of each emulator, not too sure, but I listed these specific versions, because they play my hack best. Emulator: Version: ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ FCE Ultra 98.12 FCEUXD 1.06 Jnes 0.6 Nestopia 1.37 For intended quality, I would suggest using Jnes. I prefer it. ;) Also, there may be some other emulators that will play my hack, but I could only test these ones. Patching the ROM: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To do this, you can use FuSoYa's Lunar IPS tool. It's very easy to use, so you shouldn't have too much trouble. I hope you like it! :) September 27, 2008 - Version 1.1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Fixed a text error. -There was a mistake in the magic tables, which prevented you from casting the Jump spell. It's good now. October 1, 2008 - Version 1.2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Fixed a couple text errors. -Added new .txt files into the folder. One for levels, and one for items. -Changed some of the layout in Palace 4. You could skip a key, completely ignoring it, but now you must get it. :) I originally planned for you to get this key, so that's why it had to be changed. -Fixed a room in Palace 1. If you fell down, you had to force yourself to jump in the lava. My intention with this room was: If you fell down you died. Sort of how the original game was. October 9, 2008 - Version 1.3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Polished a few areas of the game. -Made the Easy version easier; Reduced the amount of instant death pits, and reduced the enemy encounter rate. Now it takes twice as much time, + 1, for those overworld blobs to appear. -Completely redesigned the Great Palace. Hard Version only! October 10, 2008 - Version 1.4 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Difficulty has been tweaked even more. -Greatly reduced magic consumption of more powerful spells in the easy version. -Revised a few hints, making them useful.
