The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Redux Re-Wizardized Patch Version 1.0 Released 2020-01-01 By Kyler Ashton kylerashton@protonmail.com ---------------------------------------------- ABOUT THIS PATCH ---------------- This is an addendum patch for the extremely excellent A Link to the Past Redux patch, which has quickly became my absolute favourite way to play this classic! ...However, the change to Agahnim's role as a 'priest' rather than a 'wizard' just felt out of place to me. I realize the Japanese version casts him as an evil priest (and maybe this is just my nostalgia getting in the way), but Agahnim represented as an evil court wizard feels much more natural to me. If you feel the same for whatever reason, then this patch is for you! Anyway, the patch simply changes all references I could find to Agahnim as a 'priest' back to 'wizard'. It's possible I've overlooked a line somewhere, so if you find one, please let me know and I'll update the patch. While I was in there, I made a few other minor grammatical and stylistic fixes. Most of the changes were simply dropping the capital 'O' out of 'of' (e.g. 'Knights Of Hyrule' to 'Knights of Hyrule', etc.). The only two changes that some players may notice are a slight rewording to the sign in front of the lumberjacks' house (the original sounded very unnatural to me) and a change to one of Zelda's lines during the tutorial referring to the priest at the Sanctuary (the original line refers to him as the 'old man' there, but he seems to be the priest there to me). Despite some other somewhat grammatically questionable lines in the original script, I have left everything else as-is. Everything considered, the changes are all incredibly minor and most players are unlikely to notice any of them (they're more to appease my OCD than anything else), except for the priest-to-wizard reversion the patch is named for. HOW TO APPLY THE PATCH ---------------------- You will need a ROM of the North American version of the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for Super Nintendo (sorry, you're on your own there), the Redux patch mentioned above, this patch, and an IPS patching application (I recommend Lunar IPS). After backing up your ROM(!!!), apply the Redux patch, THEN this Re-Wizardized patch. The order is important! There are versions for both headered and non-headered ROMs included in the zip archive. If you don't know whether or not your ROM is headered or not, the SNES ROM Utility can tell you. DISCLAIMER ---------- This patch is provided 'as is', without any guarantee of desired effectiveness or fitness for any particular purpose. Though it should be fine, I cannot promise it won't mess up your ROM or whatever you play it on, so make sure to back your files up first! I have NOT tried this patch on every permutation of the Redux patch (there are several options). This patch only modifies the text, so I assume it will be fine regardless of which variant you are using, but I can't guarantee it. Use at your own risk! THANKS ------ All the fine folks who put together the Redux patch (and all the parts that went into it)! As I noted above, this is hands-down my favourite way to play A Link to the Past today! The creators and maintainers of Hyrule Magic who did so much heavy lifting for A Link to the Past hacking! The original creators and localizers of A Link to the Past for truly classic video game! And you, for reliving the good old days of Agahnim as a wizard with me! ;)
