------------------------------------ | Eek! The Cat - Color Enhancement | | v1.1 by Mister Man | ------------------------------------ | Introduction | ------------------------------------ "Eek! The Cat" for the SNES is pretty infamous game; not only for its gameplay, but also for featuring very dark colors. Contrary to popular belief, this isn't the fault of the SNES' brightness register. What you see in the game is how the palettes are actually stored in the ROM. This hack brigthens up almost every color palette with the help of GIMP's "Stretch HSV" filter, making the graphics easier to see now. ------------------------------------ | Changelog | ------------------------------------ | v1.0 | ------------------------------------ * Initial release * Brightened up most of the color palettes. * Two of the splash screens (the Ocean and CTA ones) were left unmodified, as they didn't suffer from dark colors. * Unfortunately, the background gradients were left unmodified due of the way they are coded. However, the escort's lifebar and the background in "Halloweek" had their colors brightened up. * Updated ROM checksum. ------------------------------------ | v1.1 | ------------------------------------ * All the compressed background gradient palettes have finally been modified to have brighter colors, like the rest of the new palettes. * Updated the ROM checksum once again. ------------------------------------ | Patching | ------------------------------------ To apply these patches, any program that supports the IPS patch format (like LunarIPS) is required. Two patches are provided for the two versions of the game: * "EEK!_USA" works with "Eek! The Cat (USA)" * "EEK!_EUR" works with "Eek! The Cat (Europe)" ------------------------------------ | Tools Used | ------------------------------------ * YY-CHR.NET (Palette Editor) * GIMP * Advanced Palette Editor (APE) * Hex Workshop * IPSandSUM SNES ROM Utility (by Bongo') * FlexHEX * Mesen-S * SNES9x
