Lunar Strolling School translation patch V_17 Released 05/21/01 by Rebecca Capowski, Nyef and Naflign. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- /*Version .17 release notes: I wish this release were for a more happy reason. Unfourtunatly, we're releasing this patch because so little work has been done on this. Complications in real life have been sapping more and more of both Rebecca and my time. We decided to, that it could be best to focus on getting a couple quick projects finished....which unfourtunatly turned out to be horridly big projects in small project clothing. I think it's been over half a year since we worked on LSS, possibly even eight or nine months. This project is _not_ dead though. Consider it rather to be hiding untill the big scary bully projects wander away. */ http://naflign.dhs.org/ego/LSSrnftr.html Rom translation http://home.att.net/~RCgamusic/trans.htm Text translation, and translation of the Magical School Lunar manga, which features the characters of Lunar Strolling School. http://naflign.dhs.org/ego/ General page about the Lunar (Magic/Strolling) School games Description: This ips patch will translate all the dialog of chapter 1 (The games introduction), chapter 2, 99% of Chapter 3, and part of the chapter 4s intro of the game gear game, "Lunar Strolling School", also known incorrectly as Magical School Lunar. In addition to this, most spell names, menus and many other things have also been translated. For current progress check the rom translations home page at http://naflign.dhs.org/ego/LSSrnftr.html If that url is dead, I recomend checking at the whirlpool, a great translation news/review site at, http://donut.parodius.com/ to see what's going on with it. Use: Windows/Dos users: You will first need a program to do the patching. Personally, I use SegaTool, which you can download at http://naflign.dhs.org/ego/segatool.zip Other programs may or may not produce correct results. DO NOT use IPSWin with this patch, it will only give you an unplayable 13MB file. After downloading SegaTool, unzip it into the same directory as the Japanese Lunar Strolling School Rom and the ips patch. Run SegaTool, and then choose "use IPS" (direction keys control movement on the menu). Then simply choose the ips patch, then the rom, and then....it's translated! Simply select the "quit program" option to exit the program, and you're ready to play! See the emulation section below if you have questions as to which emulator to use. Mac users: Sorry, I'm really not sure.... You might find a patching program for the mac at http://www.emulation.net/ but I'm not sure... Or even if it would work on with this patch. The fact that the ips patch increases the roms size causes incompatibility with some patching programs. Questions? Q: How do I unzip a file? A: I'm not sure how you're reading this if you don't know, but just in case, and to plug a good program, try ExtractNow at http://members.home.net/nouser/extractnow/ if you're running on windows. Q: I saw a few 0's or 1s in game in text space. A: That's what I use to indicate a bit of space, on occasion. I think the only place you'll still find this currently is in the "found" screen after battle. Translation issues: Currently some item descriptions had to be shortened a bit to fit into the available space. Here are the full descriptions for those. Calm Herb - Herb grown in sunny places. Can be used for ointment. Cure Herb - Herb grown in warm places. Partially heals wounds. Hacking issues: You'll note the combat translations are not done, and the syntax in battle is a bit off, as well as descriptions not being listed in the save game menu. Emulation: Lunar Strolling School has been extensively tested on the following emulators in the process of this translation. Massage: http://www.enterspace.org/world/massage.htm (DOS) CHASMS: http://chasms.midgetrebellion.com/ (Windows) Minor compatibility testing has also been successfully done on DarcNES: http://www.netway.com/~nyef/ (Windows port the only one tested, but considering Nyef's role in this translation, I'd be VERY surprised to see it not work on any of the official versions or ports. ) MEKA: http://www.smspower.org/meka/ (DOS) A walkthrough can be found at http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/lunar/533/index.html and the rom can be found there as well! Team: The following people are working on this translation project. Rebecca Capowski: Translation, and fantastic translations they are! Nyef: ASM rewrites, rom expansion work, pointer work, generally the REALLY difficult work on the rom is all thanks to Nyef. Naflign: General romhacking.
