Pleasure Hearts (MSX) English Patch ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the manual: STORY: A world where guns, swords, and gears meet... [PLEASURE HEARTS] A shining jewel, said to give its owner control of everything... Now, seeking the phantom jewel, two young heroes travel the skies on iron wings! Mihara Shia (Shia) [A phantom jewel, huh...] Takahara "Swordsman" Kento (Han) [......] Shia [Once I have it, I'll give it to someone and tell them how I feel...] Han [...Is that so?] ...After overcoming many obstacles, the two finally reached the place where the jewel was sealed. An old floating castle where the ancient living weapon [PREMIUM HEARTS] is said to dwell. Shia [...We've been through a lot, but this is the final battle at last...] Han [...Yes...] Shia [...You must...stay alive...] Han [...You too.] Full throttle, the two of them move towards the ancient castle... And the final battle! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- About: Pleasure Hearts is a 1999 MSX2 horizontal shmup by M-Kai, who would go on to create Judgement Silversword and other games. This patch converts the menu, dialogue, ending, item lists, and a bit of miscellaneous text to English. For the most part, text which was already in English has been left alone. A few bits of Japanese text have been left intact, such as some of the names in the credits and some of the item list. Where I could not identify a clear meaning for the Japanese text I mostly transcribed it phonetically. I cannot rule out the possibility that I missed some text, but everything I could find I either translated, transliterated, or deliberately left alone. Version History: 1.00 (December 2021): Original release 1.01 (February 2022): Corrections and further translations based on feedback on version 1.00 from Takamichi 1.02 (September 2022): Further translations of previously unknown text found by Takamichi and Yim, additional information added to readme Controls: Gamepad: Move: D-Pad Shoot: Button A Bomb: Button B Keyboard: Move: Arrow keys Shoot: [SPACE]/[SHIFT] Bomb: [Z]/[N]/[GRAPH] Fast Forward: [RETURN] Pause: [STOP] Retire: [CTRL]+[STOP] Items: Items collected in-game are shown on-screen when collected and in the ITEM section of the main menu. Special actions taken in-game will also cause items to display in this menu. GR (Gourmet Rate): The Gourmet Rate increases as special actions are performed. Its value influences scoring. These special actions also add items to the ITEM list. Actions include destroying new enemies and experiencing different attacks or patterns. Status Conditions (partial list): PSN: Poison - your HP will gradually decrease CONF: Confusion - movement controls are reversed SEAL: Bomb Seal - you cannot use bombs FAST: Fast - ship movement speed is increased SLO: Slow - ship movement speed is decreased Patching: The patch is an ips file, made with with Lunar IPS. It is intended to be applied to a .DSK (disk image) file. The one I started with had the following checksums: MD5: cc86d3600bf2994a7a65852a225a2893 CRC32: BF81E259 CRC64: 3BD946D4D7E40DD7 SHA1: 83646E9E2BD7451F2B45B9C8CBC15531DAD51CB2 SHA256: 276496B13C64857F5ABDDBD891E3239AEBD9A3F580D5159B4E725F1B0F6F4A10 Because the game saves data on the disk, a differing checksum may just mean save data is present. The patch does not touch save data, so it may still work even if the checksum does not match. Version 1.02 is intended to be applied to an unmodified disk image, but should also work on an image previously patched with versions 1.00 or 1.01 if you want to maintain your saves. -Yim 2021/2022
