Dr. Mario Japanese Delocalization Patch Oddly, Dr. Mario 64 was developed for but not released in Japan, despite the USA release being a localization of the title. It did find its way onto the GameCube, where it was rebuilt in the Nintendo Puzzle Collection. This patch delocalizes the USA release using the GC rebuild as reference in the hopes of approximating what the Japanese release would have looked like. If it was in English in GC, it is here too. If it wasn't, it's in Japanese. Save files remain 100% compatible between this patch and the original title--even if you use Japanese in your name! Patching Use xdelta to apply the xdelta patch to the USA release. The patch will only apply to an unbyteswapped ROM! If you get a warning about an invalid checksum, byteswap your file. The MD5 for the original file should be: 1A7936367413E5D6874ABDA6D623AD32 If you prefer the SHA512: 1B0C43451A8105DB32C563DF2B6D17DC6C732C0FAEE817F984B454688F637979CE5D5264670F6F72233591915B32E08E6A0F37A62DAF2CE348DB6956550C55CA Its internal checksum is: 769D4D13 DA233FFE Notes: Yes, the irony of a English readme for a Japanese patch is not lost on me. Most files are compressed, so even minor changes increase patch filesize dramatically. Certain changes found in the GC release were not made: *) That GC title screen is an abomination. The original title is used instead, which also happens to be more consistent with later Dr. Mario releases. *) "Press any key" has been left as "Press any button" to remain consistent with other N64 titles. Certain changes were made: *) Normally in this period you'd write "D-pad Keys", not "D-pad Buttons", but I'm lazy and lousy at image editing. *) Color highlights for menu text have been restored. These were probably removed since text priority places it above the fade-to-white and lowering the priority can cause unusual collisions with text boxes. White text still appeared above the white-out, but isn't anywhere as noticeable. It's a small price to pay and again, I'm lazy and don't want to try to fix this. Some plugins or emulators may require game-specific settings. Refer to their documentation on how to add and update entries. -Zoinkity
