FINAL FANTASY II: REBALANCED ---------------------------- By Spooniest --Based on Neo Demiforce's Final Fantasy 2 patch-- --Also uses Dragonsbretheren's Original Titlescreen Patch-- Made using Jade, a utility by Lenophis. WHY REBALANCED? --------------- This game plays like it wants you to die. You are started off with little ability to take ANYTHING down, and it doesn't get better from there. There is an EasyType patch by JCET3000, but it makes you so overpowered that the game becomes a joke, in my opinion. HEX EDITS? WOWEE! ----------------- Before I get into the guts of the gameplay, I should say that I edited the text in a few places. A question that ended with a period now properly ends with a question mark, the dying King doesn't omit articles, the Lamia Queen's second statement is now properly capitalized, and Cid and Frioniel no longer swear. :) THE NITTY GRITTY ---------------- I wanted to present something a little more passable as a challenging game, but not so merciless as the vanilla version. I'll still kill you, but only if you do something profoundly stupid. So here she is! HP/MP were boosted, character stats were increased, weapon skills were taught, and the following spells were taught: Character 1 - Cure 8, Life 5, Heal 5, Aspl 16. Character 2 - Fire 5, Ice 5, Bolt 5, Warp 16. Character 3 - Nothing. Character 4 - Nothing. You get a healer (Frioniel) and a mage (Maria). The healer has Aspil for when you run low on MP in the later dungeons, so that you don't have to lug around all those Ethers and Elixirs. The mage has all three elementals (so those slimes that appear during the midgame won't ever be invincible, so long as you keep your MP filled...) and the Warp spell, which at this level (16) essentially acts as an Exit spell, with the exception of during the final dungeon, for some reason (you warp back by increments there for some reason). This assures that you are always equipped with magic appropriate to the situation. You won't be super overpowered, but you won't be up the creek either, unless you let your MP run out. In addition, the Ribbon and Defense Ring items are now much more powerful in their Defense and Magic Defense properties. If you see them, get them, they'll make life a lot easier for you. This streamlines the endgame somewhat, so that you're not getting utterly ripped to bits by the moment you set foot in the Jade Portal. One edit was made to the monsters, specifically the enemy DthRider, who was weakened a bit to make the final dungeon a bit less stressful. Also, don't discount the Mask Village, it's not as useless as it used to be...
