Updates: Fixed graphic mix up in this original version of the game. The sideviews of faces were totally mixed up when the Nekketsu team walks across the screen victorious. With combination of regular and sideviews you'd often see two of the same character. Loss faces were a little less mixed up. In locker room after match win faces and lose faces, Takashi looked like Susumu. In all these instances Takashi looked like Susumu and there were two instances of Susumu in all the side views. This is all sorted out correctly now. For the in game commands dialog between you and your teammates I changed a few seemingly unused ones that I already had changed to Romanji. They are now the English from Nintendo World Cup just in case they might show up rarely. All instances of Minna in dialog changed to ALL. Except when you choose not to continue a rough translation is Misako says [Absurd ALLdislike! I left it as Misako[AbsurdDislike! rather than changing to Misako[Absurd ALLHate! or Misako[Absurd!ALLHate!(what little I have room for). Most Kanji replaced with English. Left two kanji on the match intro screen and a few Kanji that are shared by multiple teams. Maybe left one used by Shimanchuu only just cause there was space left for it to stay. So vs team selection, match intro screens, and score screens have the team names in English now. Except score screens only show some of the kanji for each team whether I replaced the specific kanji or not. So for Yoshimoto announcers and Ipponzuri fishing it just shows a descriptive picture of a microphone or fish with some kanji. Yamamoto gamblers only use two kanji that are used by other teams. (which in their case of that combination it simply says Yamamoto) You see their English/Romanji name fine on match intro screen. I found how to change which kanji are shown where on match intro screen, but couldn't change it for score screen. Except by editing the gfx themselves which is no good for kanji shared by multiple teams. Some spacing is annoying for Nekketsu and Hattori Ninja. After working on a partial translation for the better Sharp X68000 version of this game I went back and improved this patch. Some stuff is nicer in that translation but this version translates more. Kanji are overlayed in a crazy way in the rom but I managed. This started as just a gfx only patch changing Hiragana and Katakana into Romanji. Player and team names are still that so observe the normal rules of Japanese writing. Adding " changes K to G, S to Z except Shi becomes Ji, T to D except Chi becomes Ji and Tsu becomes Zu, H or F to B. Adding º to H or F = P I left small versions of tsu as Hiragana and Katagana. In Hiragana it looks kinda like a backwards c or U rotated onto its left side. In Katakana it looks kinda like a slanted smiley "/ Small tsu is silent and doubles next consonant. Except at the end of a word, small tsu means a sudden cut-off in speech called a glottal stop, where someone constricts their throat stopping all air flow. Smaller y syllables or vowels replace vowel of syllable they follow. Except with Shi,Ji,& Chi the y is dropped out of combination. A dash (-) doubles the vowel it follows. Translated to different text via hexadecimal: Just Dodgeball Club Bushita to DODGEBALBushita at top during part of opening story in Dodgeball Club Materials Room. All instances of Minna changed to ALL. All menus and options except YES and NO left as HAI and IIE. Half Time and (Waiting) Room. Misako's question and response when you choose HAI or IIE to continue or not after to losing a game. The whole ending except for names left in Romaji. My best guess at translations not done in this hack due to lack of space or understanding: Thought there was another girl involved in dialog named Minna but found out from Sharp X68000 version's voiceovers that Minna just means All or Everyone. Many new options: Fast mode, turn off Super Shots, change music, change game time. PC-Engine CD - Great music + 5 new teams: France, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany. PC-Engine Hucard - Rocket Scientists are a 13th team (Looking at internal values I can tell this more recent but smaller version used the CD version as a base) PC-Engine versions are up to 4 players in vs mode and have awesome gfx and sound. They seem to play faster but not as fast as Sharp X68000's fast mode. In most versions I visually count the steps to do super shots if not used to the amount of time to walk for a player. In PCE versions it seems better to count the beats of the dribbling sound. Mega Drive has horrible control and hit detection and most players' shots are badly nerfed (regular and super). However all teams are selectable in vs, players have varied stats on all teams, and at least the Hattori Ninjas have a bunch of crazy special moves shown in a youtube video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF8IAdlP7lA Too bad the Mega Drive version (Japanese Genesis) is so messed up ruining it despite the upgrades. At least 73 of 80 player faces changed. At least 93 of 104 player names changed to go with that. Lots of Match, Halftime, and Ending gfx changed. Music switched around including previously unused music. Teams more balanced with each other.
