Years later, Pennywise handed off the script to OMorty who played through the translation and edited the script. Then years later, Pennywise finally played through the game, made various additions and improvement to the hacking and made more edits to the script. It should also be noted that this game was part of a sizable backlog of various rpgs aishsha and Pennywise had in the pipeline and its completion finishes our backlog of translation projects for the Famicom. Special thanks must be given to TheMajinZenki for looking over all the names and doing various spot translations. He has some sort of become the SRW translator and is practically an expert on those series. I did also discover in the course of translating the game several unused text strings. After doing a little bit of poking around, I do believe the text is no longer called through the scripting code that loads everything. From what I saw, it looks like they ran of out space and started cutting stuff out. I suppose it is possible to reverse engineer the scripting code, relocate/expand the scripting code and add in the necessary code to implement the text again. One last thing to note about the hacking is that the ROM was expanded past its mapper limitation. This was inherited from the start and quite frankly I don't think the translation would be what it is without said expansion. It's not like the game would be playable on hardware anyway. The mapper uses what I believe is called EEPROM, which is not supported by flashcarts. The game also probably only works on a select few emulators like FCEUX, but if you contact your local emulator dev, adding support for our translation should be pretty easy. As for the game itself, it's your typical DQ clone on the Famicom. Gameplay-wise, there's nothing revolutionary about it. In fact, the game is most notable for being the first game in the Knight Gundam series. Obviously not for everyone, but it's a solid old-school game. As for the question of whether we will translate the various sequels? It's not out of the realm of possibilities, but we have no plans at this time. ====================================================== Verion History ====================================================== V 1.0 - Initial relase V 1.01 - Minor update to technicals V 1.02 - Couple name changes V 1.03 - Bugfixes courtesy of blipform ====================================================== Patching Instructions ====================================================== Due to limitations in the IPS format and the changes we made to the ROM, the patch is in BPS or xdelta format. You can apply it with a frontend such as: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/893/ http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/ The patch can also be applied with RHDN's nifty web patcher here: https://www.romhacking.net/patch/ Apply the patch to the Japanese ROM: SD Gundam Gaiden - Knight Gundam Monogatari (Japan).nes We would be highly grateful, if you find some time to contact us with proposals or corrections. Information on found bugs or corrections would be highly appreciated. P.S. Support the game industry by buying used games! Even if the money doesn't go to the developers directly, as the games become rare and harder to find, the price goes up, and people become more inclined to buy new releases "while they can!" ====================================================== Credits go to: aishsha - hacking, translation Pennywise - hacking, text editing KingMike - original hacking blipform - menu and exp bugfixes TheMajinZenki - name checking, spot translations Ryusui - misc spot translations FlashPV - title screen design OMorty - text editing cccmar - testing Xanathis - testing All those who contributed into this process. ====================================================== Compiled by Pennywise.
