"Shoot the Goof" is an NES light-gun game, credited to Oniros, 2000.

The NES version was released as a 5-in-1 multicart with Commodore 64 ports of Ice Hunter (Hunter On Ice), Magic Madness (Magician), and Tropical Fever, plus Race 'N Burn. These are probably from the same developers, and probably developed by Jean-François de Wergifosse of Colosoftwares.

This hack restores a screen of explanatory text at the beginning of the game, as well as the copyright credit to Oniros. This text appeared in the game originally, but was removed from later bootleg releases. The original text was in French. A version translated into English is also provided. A unique letter "A" has also been restored to the font.

You are a sniper in the anti-alien division.

Hungry aliens have crossed the galaxy and threaten to eat your friends.

You have a time limit to complete your mission.

Each alien you eliminate will give you points.

If you hurt an innocent you will lose some.

The more points you have accumulated at the end, the better you will have succeeded in your mission.

Be brave and precise!

The second screen of the game was originally explanatory text in French. In later bootlegs this was replaced with "Press A to play" and the first screen's copyright removed. In other games from this same collection, some code was added to force graphics over the count of 60 (hexadecimal) on this screen to have 60 subtracted, basically forcing this screen to display only letters from an alphabet. This is probably happening here also, but also forcing the alphabet to be off by one. I could not find this shift in the code, so coded this screen with an alphabet which is off by one to match. (Two .TBL table files are provided as a bonus, with Table B being off by one, and used for this screen.)
