Romance of the Forgotten Kingdom English Patch v0.9 beta Created November 11th, 2011 by derboo This program renders the game Romance of the Forgotten Kingdom (Korean: Mangguk Jeon'gi: Ichyeojin Nara-ui Iyagi; the official English title was The Romance of Forgotten Kingdom) by Mirinae Software into English. The current version 0.9 is not 100% finished (details below), but the whole story with both optional paths is fully playable in English. Most of the things that need fixing require more profound hacking skills than mine, though, so this is the only release for the forseeable future, and further updates would have to rely mostly on outside help. Applying the patch: Simply install the Romance_of_the_Forgotten_Kingdom_English_v09.exe to the game directory. The patch has to be applied to a correctly installed, unaltered version of the game. To-do: -Most annoyingly, menu spacing is off. Long item names write over quantities or prices, some other strings had to be kept cryptically short to keep them inside their confined portion of the menus. -A few battle notifications ("miss" and the status information for the analysis spell) remain untranslated because I couldn't locate the corresponding graphics in the files. -The "Thank you for playing" message after the end staff roll is untranslated for the same reason. -A few item and skill names remain untranslated because their function in the game is not clear and a literal translation isn't possible. -The game is plagued by a number of bugs even in its unaltered version, which deserve fixing (read more below). -Balancing could use some corrections, as well. Especially many of the bosses are too easy compared to normal enemies, and there's half a dungeon full of enemies that can't even do so much as hit a normally leveled party. Known bugs caused by the patch: -Long item names write over quantity/price figures in menus. -Apostrophes in the upper dialog line leave some pixel residue until the dia- log changes to another character. Known game bugs unrelated to the patch: -It is possible to miss a story-crucial party character altogether. The game can still be completed after triggering this bug, though, since the character still appears in the cutscenes he's needed for, even though he's not in the party. -When changing a job, any equipped gear that cannot be used with the new job is moved back into the party inventory, but duplicated 4 times. -Key story items can be sold in shops and are then lost permanently. -When returning to the first village after solving the first quest, one villager is displayed as a stack of transparent squares. -In one area opened chests are displayed as the lower half of an NPC sprite. -In some areas battles take place in front of the wrong background. -Pressing escape at the target selection prompt in combat makes the character attack a random(?) enemy slot. If the slot is empty, a goblin death animation is played. -The level displayed on the save/load screen is always one below the actual highest character level. -There's one bugged weapon with no name found in the game. When wielding it in combat, the character simply won't attack. In the translation the message "THIS IS A BUG" is displayed in place where the weapon name would be. -Healing spells are clearly supposed to be usable outside of combat (white font instead of grey) but it just doesn't work. If you happen to encounter any more bugs, please send a description how to re- produce them (and preferably a saved game immediately before they can be trig- gered; the save file is RPG.ABC) to translation [at] derboo [dot] de.
