Castle Fantasia 2: The Sacred War - Renewal (version 2) Produced by Studio E.Go! Translated by me, BTAxis. Thanks go to _Bnu. Big flip of the finger to Top50. ==================================== How to apply this translation: 1) Install the game. 2) Copy the files "CF2R.exe" and "Game00.dat" from this archive to the directory where you installed the game. Overwrite the old ones. 3) You're all set! Run CF2R.exe to start the game. ==================================== Rant: Okay, version 2. I hadn't expected there to be so many problems with the first version of this patch. That's what you get when you don't actually have anyone who can test it for you. I fixed several typos and layout mistakes, as well as a crash and several hangs somewhere. I translated this game because I felt like it. It's actually your run-of-the-mill hgame, but the little battle scenes you have to get through from time to time add that little something extra that sparked my interest. Add to that pretty nice-looking artwork, and you've got an above-average game in its genre. My friends tell me they think all the characters in E.Go's games look the same, but I really don't feel that way. The art is very recognizable, that's true, but I don't think that when you've seen one game of theirs, you've seen them all. Above-average, I said. But what makes this game REALLY worthwhile, in my opinion, is the voice acting. Almost all the text in this game is voiced, and the quality of the acting is really rather excellent. Tragically, voice acting in games usually ranges from decent (most hgames) to really ghastly (Star Ocean 2). It's nice that there's quality work like this out there, too. Well, the usual legal stuff. This translation provided as is, yadda yadda yadda, not responsible blah blah blah, use at your own risk, etc. All that's left for me to say is, enjoy. ==================================== Q&A: Q: I don't understand the installation instructions! A: Tough. Q: I get errors when a voice is supposed to play. What do I do? A: You need to install an MP3 codec. No, having WinAmp is not enough. No, I can't recommend one. Use your old friend Google. Q: The opening video does not play. Why? A: The opening video is encoded with Indeo. Since this is a pretty crappy codec, most codec packs don't include it. You'll have to find it separately. Q: After I alt-tab out of the game and then go back to it, the 3D effects don't work anymore. What can I do to prevent this? A: Nothing. It just does that. Simply don't alt-tab out of the game, or run it windowed. Q: Stuff just DISAPPEARS when some combat animations are playing. Help? A: I found that this happened to me on my GF4 when using Detonator drivers 66.93. They made stuff disappear in some other games, too. Installing an older version fixed it. Q: I can't run the game, it crashes all the time! Why? A: Actually, I've heard this happens a lot for many people. I never had any problems, but it seems running in Win98 compatibility mode may help. Also, if a crash persists at a certain point, chances are a script got mangled. I try to get them all in correctly, but sometimes things break. Q: Did you really translate 100% of the text? A: Actually, no. There's one script file I didn't translate, since it's only ever reached when you set the "nonadult" flag. This flag causes the game to skip all the mature content. Since that's not going to happen, translating those last fifteen lines was just too much work. I haven't got all year. Also, I didn't translate the panic text you get when you manage to crash the game. When that happens, suffice to say that you screwed up. Or maybe I did. Q: I am frightened of naked women. How do I set the nonadult flag? A: I don't know. Possibly you have to start the game with a command line parameter or something. If anyone knows, drop me a line. Q: What does "Renewal" mean? A: It means that this game is a remake. The original game was released back in 1998. Q: How's this game different from the original, then? A: Well, for starters this game includes voices for almost all of the text in the game. Good voices. The original game only had voices for the adult scenes. Then there's graphics. The original game ran in 640x480, with 256 colors, while this game uses 800x600x16bit. The CG images have been redrawn, and they look much more polished now. However, pretty much half the CG images from the original game were omitted in this game - I suppose it was too much work to redo them all. A pity. However, you get to have a happy ending for Somia. She always dies in the original. Oh, and they took out the secret homo ending. Q: HOMO ENDING!? A: Yep. There was this little omake bit where the three main male characters got it on. I thought that was hilarious, but you'll probably be glad they took it out. Q: I think your translation is great. What should I do? A: You can mail me at BTAxis@gmx.net for feedback and instructions on how to send me large amounts of money. Or you can try to contact me on IRC. I'm usually on irc.parodius.com. Q: I think your translation sucks major ass. My sister can do better than you! A: Send your sister around my place, and we'll discuss the intricacies of translating games like this. Make her bring her own condoms. Q: Do you want to join my group, we're- A: No. Q: Where can I get the actual game? A: Don't ask me that. I will not help you find the game. I only provide this translation for it. Q: Is there a walkthrough for this game? A: I have no idea. I got everything in the game, but then I could read the scripts. Maybe someone will make a walkthrough for it now that it's available in English. Check www.gamefaqs.com. If it's not listed there, I don't know.
