Farland Story 3 --------------- Translation by BTAxis (contact at BTAxis@gmx.net) VERY Special thanks to _Bnu, whithout whose crappy unt.exe I would never have been able to get this done so soon. --------------- ABOUT THIS TRANSLATION ---------------------- Farland Story 3 is Farland Story Done Right. This game improves over the previous two games in every aspect. It has 40 stages instead of 14, making it longer than FS1 and FS2 together. It has animated cutscenes (well, something like it anyway). It has better graphics (all unit graphics are new except for one monster, so no cheap graphics copying from FS2). It has a neat EXP scaling system (see below). And the storyline is better too, although it still doesn't earn any awards. But the Farland series keeps getting better as we go along, so I am optimistic for the future! I know what you are thinking. You're thinking "Is it harder?". Well. When I was checking out this game, I took a closer look at the .UNT files that are in the game directory. It didn't take a genius to conclude that these files contained the unit information. After two days of staring at the HEX codes and comparing them to the numbers in-game, I completely figured out the format. I kicked my friend _Bnu a bit, and he whipped up a tool to make editing the UNT files easier. So YES. The game is tougher to beat than the previous games. I have rebalanced all the maps, adding and modifying enemies as I went along. Some maps are still not too hard to win, some are really tough. But none are impossible. I beat the game without cheating or editing my save games. I hope you enjoy this game. I know I did. -BTAxis, 28-03-2003 NOTES WHILE PLAYING ------------------- - You will still need to use a Japanese font to play the game. Some characters are still in doublebyte, and I didn't feel like changing something that worked fine. - Some monster names, but in particular all terrain names are severely truncated. This has - again - to do with the names being in the executable, and I can't change the length of the original string. - FS3 uses an experience scaling system. What does that mean? It means the the amount of experience you get for damaging or killing a monster is influenced by the difference in levels. If your character is level 20, and the monster is level 15, you will earn less experience than you would have if the monster had been level 25. Keep this in mind when deciding on who should finish off a nearly dead enemy. - You *can* play from floppy disks, but the amount of disk swapping is insane. I recommend you install the game onto a hard disk image. Read the instructions.
