Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy in Fortune Street Special English hack by Choppasmith! Welcome to the Woooooorld of the Reeeeead Meeeeee! Included with this Read Me is an English patch for the PS2 game Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Special for the PS2. It's an addendum and major overhaul to MoxHypKa's original patch. This isn't FULLY translated, mind you, but it's a full "gameplay" patch with all the menus and gameplay text you really need to play the game. This includes custom graphics made by yours truely to help enhance the experience for English-fluent players. MoxHyPa's translation has been retrofitted to match current Square-Enix localisation from Frizzle to Venture Card 3.01 Update (10-24-2021) -Forgot to actually PUT the PCSX2 1.6.0 Method in the Readme. Oops! -Fixed Text in Venture Card 69 (Nice) -Fixed a couple Helper dialog lines. 3.0 Update (10-16-2021) I'm happy to report a full translation has been going well and that the next update should be a huge text/font overhaul. For now this is a quick little stopgap update. -All the helpers, including the Sphere exclusive ones, now have dialog. Some characters like Torneko still had to be dumbed down to fit but I'm really quite pleased with the results. I worked really hard to make sure they sounded as authentic (ie localization quirks) as possible. -Fixed the Rollercoaster text on the Golden Saucer stage. -It seems I lied in the last update and that Mt. Magmageddon bug wasn't actually fixed. It's most definitely fixed now! -Fixed Fluffy Sphere description. -Restored a little bit of text for the Battle Coliseum minigame. The 3 Onion Knights on the right will now be referred to as "[Name] and the party" whether they win or lose. Originally I thought it was just a weird little Japanese suffix and I removed it. -Other various typos fixed. -Updated PCSX2 patching guide (see FAQ section below). I now have methods for both 1.4.0 (DLL files) and 1.6.0 and above (Game DB file). 2.0 Update (4-15-2020)! -Fixed that glitch when doing Mt Magmageddon in Sphere mode. Turns out it was caused by me when I accidentally overwrote some map data. -Casino Graphics are now in English! -Fixed a typo for one of the Venture cards that said you get 20 stocks instead of 10. -Fixed various typos and descriptions -Decided to give the various helpers names since they aren't hindered by the 5 letter limit for things like the character select or the main status window. Impy is now Thimon, King Slime (SLIME) is now Baron, (like Fortune Street Wii, the names are taken from DQV) Fluff is now Fluffy, Tonko is now Torneko (Transactions might look a bit messy now but that's nothing new), Mandr is now Mandragora, Fat Chocobo is now Chubby and Creat is now Cactuar. What's done in this initial 1.0 patch (aka what makes this better than the original patch)? ALL Menus and related dialog except for Stage and Character Profiles ALL Extras in the Collections Menu including Records and the Music Test Custom English Graphics including the "main" gameplay menu (Roll,Stocks, etc), Holiday Square (and "Shop Closed" sign), and menu titles Casino Games text including tutorials Brand new Title Screen! Some ASM hacking to make main menu screen text smaller (now if I can just figure out how to do it for the rest of the game!) What ISN'T done? Map and Character Profiles Character Dialog (Yeah, I know this is a big one, but I'm just not fluent enough to properly translate the character dialog) Pre-rendered video text (The summons/credits. In theory, I could try and do the Summons if I knew how to properly convert back and forth between the video formats, but it seems a little more trouble than it's worth) Font optimization/hacking (Yep, sorry, you're stuck with 5 letter character names and 8 letter Sphere names until I can find someone who can help me hack the game's code to adjust text size) Problems/Glitches! You might notice text in a lot of the windows tend to stick out, looking a little messy. Sorry. I'm hoping to find someone that might help me hack the text to make things fit better. I was going for more "readability" over "professional neatness" This really shouldn't affect anything EXCEPT for the "Area Slot" when you get the "Random District/Stock/Whatever" Venture Card looks out of whack. Questions? Read these first! Q: What are those PCSX2 files for? A: So, there's a glitch when trying to play this game in the PCSX2 Emulator (VERSION 1.4.0). The board disappears! Gabest, the graphics coder made a little fix. It works by detecting the CRC of the game you're running and applies a fix unique to the game. It ONLY loads when it detects the CRC (so that the fix doesn't mess up another game), and my patch changes the CRC, so the emulator doesn't "see" the game as the one it needs to fix. My included files can fix that! Look for your PCSX2 executable (the original, not the shortcut) and in the same place should be a "Plugins" folder. Just place those three files in there and overwrite them and you're good to go. Don't worry, they shouldn't overwrite any settings or anything! *****THIS IS FOR PCSX2 1.4.0 ONLY**** FOR PCSX2 1.6.0 AND HIGHER: 1)Open GameIndex.yaml in the PCSX2 directory with a text editor (preferably with Notepad++) 2)Look for SLPM-65797. 3)Add/Overwrite the text so that it resembles the text below SLPM-65797: name: "Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street" region: "NTSC-J" compat: 5 patches: 86A135CB: content: |- author=refraction // Game seems to have problems with alpha values being zero in some instances // this patches the results from FPU to be an alpha of 2 // Fixes missing board patch=1,EE,00143CBC,word,3C030200 patch=1,EE,00143CC0,word,00831825 5)If you're using a newer 1.7.0 Nightly build, you may already see this patch filled in. Just update the CRC under "patches:" Q: So you've made everything localized! Can you make a "Japanese" patch where everything is in English except everything has all the Japanese names (Itadaki, Loto, etc?) A: I spent a LOT of time painstakingly crossreferencing Wikis to make sure it was as "localized" as possible, I'd rather not go through it all again, sorry. Q: How did you do those AWESOME graphics? I want to make my own Non-English translation (French, Spanish, etc) and would love to include these somehow! A: Well you're in luck, I still have the Photoshop templates I used and would be happy to help you with that! Anything else? Let me know at mog1138yahoo.com Special Thanks! Square-Enix for bringing over the Wii game that got my WHOLE family hooked and drove me to work on this! Now bring out that PS4 game dammit! Mox Hyp Ka for working on the original patch that really isn't so bad, it's mostly the goofy mistranslations krat0s from the Romhacking forums for teaching me a little bit about ASM that lead to the nice little menu text hack. HUUUUUGE thanks to DQ Translations for making their scapped translation and related work files available that helped me get this done and looking great!
