King's Field 1 (released only in Japan) was the first RPG for the Playstation console and King's Field 2 (released as "King's Field" in the US and EU) was the first ever Playstation RPG in the US and Europe. King's Field: Pilot Style is a mini game whose story takes place in the period between King's Field 2 and King's Field 3. Pilot Style was given away as a promotional item at a game show in Japan and went relatively unnoticed. It only takes about an hour to complete, but it is an interesting tidbit in the King's Field world. TRIVIA: If you examine the files on the disk, you can see it's actually close to a beta version of KF3. Most of the KF3 files are on the Pilot Style disk including full maps, many weapon item etc. ALL ITEMS.EXE Included is "All Items.exe", a little tool I made that will "tweak" a Pilot Style disk image to add all items to your inventory. Some of the unlocked items are unusable since their effects have not been implemented yet, but it's interesting to see where KF3 development was at when Pilot Style was released. The tool also undoes the "all item" tweak and works on the Japanese or English version of Pilot Style. However for reasons known only to Hironobu Sakaguchi and the alien race of Pod-People who are slowly replacing our politicians with evil clones (don't worry the evil pod-clones are actually a little nicer than the real politicians they replaced), the all-item tweak will most likely NOT work on an actual PS1. So if you want to try it, use an emulator or the PSP. TRANSLATION: This translation is not literal; names and such have been aligned to the official US KF games (mostly). I also did some rewording and such to capture the "spirit" of the Japanese instead of direct "word for word". Direct Japanese usually sounds repetitive redundant and recurring (ha ha - I slay me) in English. HOW TO APPLY PATCH Apply the ".imageDiff" patch file to a Japanese BIN, IMG or no-sub MDF using ImageDiff (duh). ImageDiff's interface is a little confusing: click the left-most tab, load the ImageDiff patch into the top line, the Japanese Pilot Style disk image into the second line, and where to save the translated image on the third line then push "GO". This translation should run on a PS1 (modified etc) and emulators including the PSP. THANKS: Special thanks to the creators of pSX, jPSXdec, and armips whose work made this project much easier. Also thanks to overseas friend who loaned me a copy of Pilot Style so I could do this translation. If anyone wants to sell me a copy of Pilot Style, I would be honored and overjoyed to own it.
