PopoloCrois Monogatari II English Patch v0.3 Authored by Riley Bayless (LostOkina) 6/6/2022 I. Install Instructions NOTE: The RHDN hosted version of this hack does NOT include subtitles for the anime cutscenes. This is due to the size limit of RHDN. I have hosted a separate file for the full v0.3 patch on my OneDrive. Please use this link to download: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aq1cCTsoXcWW02GyLdv1G3Ja9FdI?e=sTGo05 To apply this patch, please use the Delta Patcher Lite executable on the ISO's BIN file. For further instructions on how to use this utility, please see: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/704/ DISCLAMER: The Popolocrois ISO is particularly difficult to get running in most emulators, patched or not. My extensive testing of this translation was done on the no$psx emulator. However, it also runs nicely in the more modern emulator, Duckstation. Unfortunately, common emulators like RetroArch and ePSXe crash upon trying to load it. Please feel free to reach out to me on the romhacking.net forums as Okina with any issues or concerns. You can also find me as LostOkina on the Popolocrois discord that keke_094 hosts. http://discord.gg/ZbjHaZq II. Release Notes v0.3 - Added subtitles to all the anime cutscenes in the game that have dialogue. AGAIN: this addition is not in the default RHDN download, please see link above for this. - Added subtitles to the three cutscenes that were only voice-acted with scrolling images behind them. - Fixed two game crashes. One in a house in Hatahata Village, one at the final cutscene 'Confession'. - Did a light editing pass through of the game main story cutscenes. - Fixed a code bug in Duckstation that rendered character faces in the menu weirdly. - Fixed a bug in the menu's that caused the 'Skills' button to get shortened and look bad. - Several of the mini games in the Land of the Gods were translated in the wrong place and now are actually in English. - Translated the Album mode unlocked at the end of the game. - Finished translating a bunch of items and descriptions that I missed. - Special thanks to Squaresoft74 from the discord who helped track down a bunch of the missing details. - As a final note, it has been a joy to work on this game. I had no plans to come back to it when I first uploaded the translation, but I found myself wanting this project to be left in a place I was proud of. And when I revisited it, I found so many things I wished were better and next thing I spent a couple more months on it. I continue to love this game more and more for and I really hope that this project allows others to experience its charm as well. v0.2 - Made a small git mistake and didn't have some later changes to the game. A short list of these includes: missing cutscene translations in chapter 0 and 1, some enemy names, using gold instead of money, some memory card menus, missing translated images for swapping to discs 1,2, or 3, etc. v0.1 - All gameplay elements of the game that are necessary for progression have been hand-translated. This includes all cutscenes, items, descriptions, enemies, menus, etc. - Anything I deemed as not necessary was machine translated. Almost all NPC's fall into this category and spew out barely sensible dialogue. If you're curious, they will trail off with a '...' often due to space limitations in the game's memory that I did not overcome. Popolocrois NPC's really do have great writing, so I am bummed that I did not have time for this in my 3 month project timeline. - The animated cutscenes do not have any subtitles and are not changed in any way. I would reccomend viewing these cutscenes on youtube where various uploaders have added captions. Or, there is a gamefaqs FAQ by Wyrdwad that lets you know what is generally being said. - Other missing translation features include: parts of the beastiary descriptions, an editing pass through to conform the games overal text, and of course meaningful translations of NPC's. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/576807-popolocrois-monogatari-ii/faqs/18892 - Just a side note, I used Wyrdwad's translations for significant parts of the game which is why character names differ from the 2005 Official English PSP game. Hopefully Pietoro vs Pietro can be overlooked. III. Personal Note When I initially started this project, it was only for my own entertainment and to try out some fun rom hacking tools. I spent about 3 months on this project and did not think anyone would actually want to play it. However, many years later it seems there is a small community of people who love Popolocrois so I am putting this out there to whomever may enjoy it. I really hope you do enjoy it! It truly is a special game to me, and I wish I had the time to bring this project to the polish it deserves. Sadly, I am not going to be returning to this project except to potentially fix crashing bugs found. If you are interested in using any of my development tools to continue the translation work, please reach out! I can upload the tools I created to romhacking.net and would love to provide you any additional hacking support you might need.
