BS Super Mario USA v1.0 July 26, 2004 KingMike Translations (http://www.emuxhaven.net/~kingmike/index.html) *********** INTROUCTION *********** Super Mario USA is the Japanese version of the US Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES. The game was included in a remake collection for the SNES/SFC called Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Collection, respectively. This version is a special version destributed over the Broadcast Satellaview system in Japan. The Broadcast Satellaview was a system designed to allow the downloading of stuff to a Super Famicom, and could be saved onto carts similar to original Game Boy carts. In this version of SMB2/USA, you can play World 1, 2, 4, or 5 (depending on which "week"'s ROM you play). You have the added challenge of trying to find the 10 hidden Mario statues (3 in sublevels 1 and 2, 4 in sublevel 3). You also score points. So I guess you can try to impress your friends with your l33t SMB skillz or something. There's also a clock I don't think matters at all, and random characters pop up on the screen, for reasons I don't know. **** TEAM **** KingMike (http://kingmike.emuxhaven.net) ********************* PATCHING INSTRUCTIONS ********************* Windows: Run LunarIPS and close it. Now you can just double-click the IPS. You will be prompted to select the ROM. I used Week 1's ROM to make the patch, but any of the four weeks should work. The ROM DOES need a header. **************** EMULATION ISSUES **************** None that I know of. ZSNES or SNES9X should run this just fine. *************** WHAT'S NOT DONE *************** I saw a bunch of text I don't think was used, so I didn't translate it. If it used, let me know and I'll fix it. ***************** PLAY INSTRUCTIONS ***************** You don't know how to play Super Mario 2, huh? I don't believe you, but anyways... You play as some plumber named Mario. He runs and jumps through this dream world called Sub-con. He can also pick up stuff that grows in the ground, and throw it to kill enemies and stuff. Get the crystal ball (an enemy at the end of the stage may have it), and this bird mask will let you go on to the next stage. Unless it's part 3 of the world, in which case just beat up the last enemy to finish. You have 2 hearts. If an enemy hits you, you lose a heart. If you lose all your hearts, you die. The object of the game is to avoid dying. The original game ended when you beat this giant frog thing called Wart. Officially, you can't beat this version of the game. The game keeps track of how many Mario Statues you've found. Find them all, and I guess you can say you unofficially beat the game. It also keeps track of how many coins and cherries you've found. I don't know if it matters, though. You also score points in this game. The timer in the corner I think is the time of day when this game was broadcast over the Satellaview network. I don't think it matters at all to the game, and I'm not sure what the random characters that appear on the screen represent. Controls: Left/Right - move Up - Enter door Down - duck. Hold down until your character flashes, the press Jump to jump real high. Select - Change options. Change B Button usage on start screen. Change between level select screen and results screen. Start - Start and pause the game. Choose Back to continue playing or Level Select to choose a different level to play. X or Y Button - Hold with the directions to run. Also used to pick up items from out of the ground. A Button - Jump B Button - can function as either A or X/Y Buttons. You choose when starting the game. Items: Cherries - Collect 5 of them and a Star will appear. Star - For a few seconds you cannot be hurt. Any enemies you run into will die. Vegetables - Throw them to hurt/kill enemies. The fifth one you pull up will be a Stopwatch instead. Stopwatch - stops enemy movement for a few seconds. Bombs - Can hurt you. Can hurt enemies. Can blow up small brown rocks. Potion - Throw it to make a door appear. Enter the door to go to a mirror image area called Subspace. In Subspace, all weeds you pull up will be coins. But only the first two times you do this in a level. If you throw a potion in the right spot, you might find a mushroom or a Mario statue. Coin - in the original game, they were used for a bonus game for extra lives. Here, I don't know what they're for. Mushroom - Refill your life meter, and increase it by 1 heart. Mario Statue - can you find them all? They also give you an extra life and refill your hearts. Key - You can open a locked door if you hold the key. You will be attacked by this flying mask called Phanto while you hold the key. POW Block - throw it to kill all enemies on the screen. 1UP Mushroom - Extra life. Crystal Ball - opens the exit. Turtle Shell - Throw it, and it will destroy an enemies it runs into. It will be destroyed when it runs into a wall. Heart - appears after destroying ten enemies. Collect it to recover one heart. ********* COPYRIGHT ********* Super Mario USA (c)1988, 1993, ???? by Nintendo. English translation provided by KingMike (c)2004.
