Red Riding Hood Cha Cha Cha English Translation Patch History ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 071108 Initial release Overview ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a translation of the X68000 game "Red Riding Hood Cha Cha Cha", also known as "AKAZUKIN CHACHACHA" or similar renditions. It was developed by Sprite. Applying the Patch ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hopefully included with this document is a patch file in the IPS format. You can use any program that supports that file format to apply this translation patch to your disk image. Playing the Game ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you've patched the disk image, simply load it up in your favorite X68000 emulator or write it to a floppy disk to use on a real X68000 system. The game can be installed to a hard drive by executing the INSTALL.BAT file. Please don't attempt this unless you really know what you are doing. There are very few practical reasons to do this on an emulator. Q & A ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: This patch doesn't work! What do I do? A: Try asking yourself whether you really need the patched version. The game is fully playable without it. You may miss out on some enjoyment, but due to the inherent difficulties involved with disk images, it may not be worth your time and effort to try to get it working. Q: Is this based on an anime/manga? A: Why, yes it is! Try looking up Akazukin Chacha. Changes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Button A wasn't working on title screen. Title screen now displayed longer (was originally only three seconds). Translated splash screen. Translated installation script. Translated in-game manual. Cleaned up lots of Ingrish here and there. Modified large font used on title screen slightly. Title logo subtitled. Translation/Transliteration Notes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Akazukin Red Riding Hood CHACHACHA Cha Cha Cha (*) CHACHA Cha Cha (**) SERAVI- C'est la Vie (***) SHI-NEchan Shiine-chan RI-YA Riiya ERIZABESU Elizabeth RYU (+) RYU * The original game renders it both with and without spaces. ** The space is included for consistency with the title. *** From the French. Some sources simply transliterate it (which does make it much easier to handle) but after doing some research and listening to some of the pronunciations given in the anime, I convinced myself that this phrase is the origin of the name. It probably isn't though. + Originally rendered in J-ASCII Romaji. There wasn't much to translate here, mostly just the in-game manual. There's no practical way to add a "dual-language" feature, but the original Japanese manual was appended after the translated version so it's kind of a bilingual translation patch. Some of the stuff in the manual was outdated, incorrect, or not really relevant anymore and was therefore left out of the English section. Hacking Notes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fortunately, this one really came together without too much trouble. Most of the changes were made to data files on the disk. It took time and some special tools to hack them, but everything went pretty smoothly. Some of the files were compressed, but appropriate tools were found to take care of the problem. We were able to get by with patching the program executable in-place (i.e. without needing to expand it) which was fortunate since relocatable programs are much more complicated to deal with than the stuff you find on ROM-based consoles. Luck combined with some clever hacking made this feasible. Most of the effort expended on this game went toward cleaning up the original English (it's that perfectionism disease again) and a few bugs/misfeatures. It might not seem like much was changed, other than the manual, but quite a bit of work went into it.
